Ever since I put my Downtown Records build up on LEGO Ideas back in August 2020 I have been asked almost constantly if there were instructions available for it.

Well, I am pleased to say that I have recently finished creating and uploading instructions for a new smaller version of Downtown Records, which you can now get your hands on from Rebrickable.

Downtown Records Modular Record Store available from Rebrickable

The new version of my Downtown Records record store modular building still features a believable downtown two storey brick-faced building with stucco detailing and ornate architectural cornicing, but unlike the huge previous version, this one has a footprint of only 16 studs wide and 24 studs deep whilst still containing three levels, a ground floor record store, a first floor living space and a roof level.

The instructions allow you to build the record store using 1123 plain unprinted parts, but you will also find my original custom sticker artwork included so you can either print some stickers, or get some parts custom printed if you wish to complete the build.

Depending on how popular these instructions are, I am planning on making more modulars that would work together with Downtown Records in a street scene utilising the same 16 x 24 footprint for people to build and add to their LEGO cities.

Let me know what you think!

Upstairs at Downtown Records https://harrisbricks.com/2020/08/upstairs-at-downtown-records/ https://harrisbricks.com/2020/08/upstairs-at-downtown-records/#comments Fri, 21 Aug 2020 05:21:36 +0000 http://harrisbricks.websitesbystudioink.com/?p=2538

Okay, so I made a tactical error with my latest LEGO Ideas project, Downtown Records. I assumed that I would be able to update my listing with new images when I got to a certain level of support, but as it turns out you can only update your listing once a month… so I won’t be able to add all the new images I have created for the first floor and back of the build to LEGO Ideas just yet! Oh well, here they are here!

In my previous post you saw images of the downstairs interior and the outside of the building, but on this post you can now see that the upstairs of the building includes a decked out studio apartment with a kitchen, living room area and a bedroom area. I have also shown the back of the building with its spiral staircase.

So what do you think?

Downtown Records on LEGO Ideas https://harrisbricks.com/2020/08/downtown-records-on-lego-ideas/ https://harrisbricks.com/2020/08/downtown-records-on-lego-ideas/#comments Sat, 15 Aug 2020 03:01:58 +0000 http://harrisbricks.websitesbystudioink.com/?p=2491

Three days ago my latest LEGO Ideas project went live on the platform seeking supporters and I have just realised that I have not really put it on my website properly yet, so today I am going to fix that (I have also realised that I haven’t put my previous project, Catherine Cat’s Café on here either – so I will need to do this soon as well, but I digress.)

Downtown Records is a modular record shop, ready and waiting to take it’s place in your LEGO city, I have packed it with brick built detail as well as custom printed parts (two of my favourite things about LEGO sets). I will gradually be revealing more of the set over time, but to start with I have revealed images of the building from the front, the side and the record store interior.

In total, Downtown Records contains about 3000 bricks and is divided into three sections. The bottom section includes a street scape including traffic light and crossing, leafy tree (I am particularly happy with how the tree turned out – I only had to rebuild it four times!) and a small news stand. Inside on the ground floor of the building there is the record store itself with shelves bulging with custom printed records on 2×2 tiles, a bathroom, and access to the staircase leading upstairs.

My aim with the design of the facade was to create a believable downtown two storey brick-faced building with stucco detailing and ornate architectural cornicing.

So if you would like to help make Downtown Records a real LEGO set, it’s free to support, all you need to do is head on over to LEGO Ideas, sign up for an account and hit that blue support button!

Sightseeing in Europe https://harrisbricks.com/2020/06/sightseeing-in-europe/ https://harrisbricks.com/2020/06/sightseeing-in-europe/#respond Sun, 21 Jun 2020 10:33:40 +0000 http://harrisbricks.websitesbystudioink.com/?p=2227

I found out on Friday that my vignette build ‘Sightseeing in Europe’ which I submitted to the ‘Build that holiday into THAT holiday!’ LEGO Ideas competition has made it through to the public voting stage.

Voting finishes on the 26th of June and the winner of this contest will get the exclusive opportunity to have their build transformed into a new LEGO gift with purchase set.

My build is a small vignette made of 250 bricks based on the idea of my dream holiday, traveling through Europe exploring historic buildings and taking in the scenery. It features an intrepid minifigure traveller exploring an historic hilltop village with his trusty camera.

Make sure you check out all the shortlisted builds here, and be sure to vote for whichever build you would most like to see as a future gift with purchase set!

Edit: I have just found out that my build Sightseeing in Europe came second in the Build that holiday into that holiday contest on LEGO Ideas! Thank you so much to everyone who voted for my build, I really appreciate it!

Congratulations to the winning entry Sailing Ship Adventure by yc_solo and to all the other runners up.

To say I am excited is an understatement, I am glad to see this build getting some International attention as the building it represents is such a symbol of my home town. I am also pretty proud to have something I built in my back room included amongst the work of some truly talented builders. Thanks to the ArchBrick team for including my build in this competition.

There are 12 builds up for consideration and if you head over to ArchBrick you can vote and help decide who wins, there are some truly amazing builds deserving of your vote!

Edit: My Shamrock Hotel build came second in the 2019 ArchBrick Build of the Year. Congratulations to DeepShen for his creation, Hearst Tower which was awarded first prize.

Wonderland Exhibition https://harrisbricks.com/2019/11/wonderland-exhibition/ https://harrisbricks.com/2019/11/wonderland-exhibition/#respond Tue, 26 Nov 2019 10:37:28 +0000 http://harrisbricks.websitesbystudioink.com/?p=1725 I know I said previously that the next exhibition I would be exhibiting in would be Brickvention 2020, however I was mistaken. From next week, four of my builds will appear in an exhibition at the Bendigo Visitor Centre.

The upcoming Wonderland exhibition at the Bendigo Visitor Centre’s Living Arts Space will explore ‘the connections between art, pop culture and serious play‘ from December 7 2019  to February 29 2020.

Wonderland brings together creativity, playfulness and design at the Living Arts Space, with a mix of works featuring bold pop-art paintings, unique ceramics, textile animals, embroidery and jewellery. The exhibition includes a stunning collection from the Bendigo LEGO® User Group, as well as a stop motion LEGO® video and green screen play. Suitable for all ages.

I will be exhibiting my Former Bendigo Fire Station, Bendigo Bus, Shamrock Hotel and my latest build of the Alexandra Fountain alongside some awesome creations from other Bendigo LEGO User Group members. Come and check it out!

The Shamrock… in the Shamrock https://harrisbricks.com/2019/09/the-shamrock-in-the-shamrock/ https://harrisbricks.com/2019/09/the-shamrock-in-the-shamrock/#respond Sun, 15 Sep 2019 03:00:05 +0000 http://harrisbricks.websitesbystudioink.com/?p=1526 As of today my build of the Shamrock Hotel is on display in the very building it represents.

This morning I had the pleasure of delivering and setting up my build of the Shamrock Hotel at the Shamrock itself.

You can now see it on display in the Hotel’s reception area at the corner of Pall Mall & Williamson St, Bendigo.
