Over the last few years people have at various times asked me for instructions for the round Neo Fabuland trees on Edward’s Island, the tree beside Downtown Records and most recently, the oak trees in The Fortress of Falkenholt, and well, you are in luck, because they all use the exact same technique for their foliage!

The only real way in which they differ is the design of the trunk and how the foliage elements are attached (and how many are used) to create the different tree styles.

I have decided to show my foliage technique on it’s own to start with, and then show the different trunks and how the elements are attached, as really you could apply the foliage to any trunk shape once it is built.

My foliage element is made of four parts in two colours, and here are the instructions:

Okay, so once you have made the foliage elements the next step is to decide which type of tree you would like.

Neo Fabuland Tree

The round Neo Fabuland trees were made to recall the round form of Fabuland tree pieces and were used for my Edward’s Island build. Each Neo Fabuland tree uses five foliage elements attached to a 4733 Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides combined with a simple straight trunk made of various 1x pieces.

Downtown Records tree

The Downtown Records tree is made of four branches of various lengths ending with a 40378 Dinosaur Tail / Neck Middle Section with Pin. Each branch has a flower stem which either two or three foliage elements attached with a 33291 Plate, Round 1 x 1 with Flower Edge (4 Knobs / Petals) and a 32607 Plant Plate, Round 1 x 1 with 3 Leaves.

Falkenholt oak tree

The oak trees in my Fortress of Falkenholt build all have different, varied trunks,  built from a range of reddish brown arches, slopes and 1x and 2x pieces of various types. They don’t all have the same number of branches (some have three and some have four), but each branch is made from 2339 Arch 1 x 5 x 4 – Continuous Bow with two foliage elements connected via clips (one pointing up from the top of the branch connected by a 4085 Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical and one pointing out from the end of the branch connected by a 2555 Tile, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip).

So those are my three trees that use the same foliage technique, but I am sure you can come up with a lot of different ways to use it. As with an of my instructions, please let me know if they have been useful to you. I would love to see what you create!
