With Brickvention 2022 out of the way now I am setting my sights on my major build for the year (which I aim to show in 2023), I have told a few people about it, and it is once again a revisit of a beloved theme from my childhood (when I was 13 to be exact), 1993’s Ice Planet 2002.

This time I am starting with story, and will use that as a leaping off point for the build. I am calling the setting Ice Planet Badlands and below is a brief outline I wrote when I first came up with the idea.

I am envisaging an icy landscape scarred by war, with bombed out buildings and broken war machines, a post-apocalyptic Ice Planet wasteland populated by battle-hardened warriors and scavengers. I think it will be interesting to imagine how Krysto and its inhabitants have changed in the last 30 years.

One of the reasons why I have chosen Ice Planet is because it has such a distinctive colour palette (a must have ingredient for a great build in my opinion, though I do plan to broaden it ever so slightly).

Those of you that know me will know that I love building landscapes and terrain, so over the last two years I have been gradually purchasing parts for the landscape in preparation for this build (lots and lots of white slopes and wedge plates – Hooray for LUGbulk) as well as some vintage Ice Planet 2002 and Nexo Knights sets and parts (thanks to The LEGO Group for the similar colour palette in these two themes) and last night and today I have been working on a wishlist on BrickLink of post-apocalyptic minifig parts (I was surprised to find there is quite a large selection to choose from!).

I am really excited to begin building, in my next post I am going to talk about the colour scheme I will be working with. Would you like to join me on my return to Krysto?
