Over the next year I am going to embark on a build that looks back at the golden years of LEGO Castle, and I mean literally, I am going to build an homage to set 375 Castle, commonly referred to as The Yellow Castle.

I am not sure if you are aware but two years ago I built my last castle build, the Fortress of Falkenholt, so the last thing I want to do is just build a yellow version of that, in an effort to avoid this as much as possible I am selecting a different historical time frame for this new castle, the renaissance (specificially I will be aiming for about 1650). So you could say I am going to be taking a trip back to the renaissance whilst exploring the renaissance of the LEGO castle theme.

Here are a few things I have decided I would like to explore in this build so far:

Curves
I have recently been experimenting with some curved tower and wall techniques that I would like to explore in this build.

Yellow
I quite like the challenge of using yellow but in a highly detailed castle build. I will build on and expand the colour scheme of the original 375 Castle set, but rest assured there will be a lot of yellow.

Detail
A considerable amount of time has passed since the yellow castle set was released in 1978 (45 years to be exact), and the level of detail that can be created with the range of available LEGO parts has increased exponentially over that time, so my new yellow castle build will include all the detail that I can pack into it.

A new but familiar castle faction
I have had an idea for a while to try to unify the two crown knights factions into a single new faction, I am going to tackle this as part of this build.

Terrain & Greenery
It probably goes without saying, but I love building terrain and greenery (though there wasn’t much greenery in my last build I must admit). I will be aiming to once again build a detailed brick built landscape for this castle to inhabit, and I also want to take up the level of plant life around the build beyond what I have attempted before.

Cutaways
My last two builds, Ice Station Icarus and The Fortress of Falkenholt have featured cutaways and I have really enjoyed incorporating these into my builds so I am aiming to include cutaways showing some of the rooms and internal structure of the castle in this build as well.

So, these are my plans so far, and the first thing I am going to tackle is the new crown knights faction, follow the link to find out more about my plans for the new faction.
